Supported Housing Empowerment Programmes
The ILS community is made up of individuals facing a wide range of personal challenges. Our abstinence-based supported housing includes several programmes that promote sober, confident, and capable independent living skills.
Our residents are expected to attend our weekly house meetings and regularly scheduled personal sessions with an ILS support worker. Your unique circumstances will be taken into account as we design an empowerment programme that could include any combination of:
- Continued therapy and addiction relapse prevention
- Continued therapy for mental health disorders
- Personal finance and debt counselling
- Assistance in accessing public benefits
- Access to education and career training opportunities
- Developing practical and day-to-day skills for independent living
- Legal assistance and advocacy
- Community engagement and volunteer opportunities
- Other areas of development that promote fully-independent living
The ability to take care of yourself is vital to independent living. To promote this independence, our residents are provided with everything they need to create their own delicious and nutritious meals.
We provide culinary skills development classes, and each house comes with a fully equipped kitchen. Community-based meal prep, cooking, and shared responsibilities around food help bring us closer together.
Community Building and Integration Programme
The staff at ILS have seen firsthand the effect that connection, community, acceptance, and social integration have on lasting recovery from substance addiction and addictive behaviour.
ILS welcomes individuals who have successfully gone through detoxification at home, a clinic, or other facility. We provide relapse prevention programmes built around a community that grows and heals together.

Your Community Building and Integration Programme could include elements of:
- Group support
- One-on-one support
- Random drug testing
- Individual progress reviews
- Check-ins and recovery meetings
- Substance addiction recovery education
- Social and relationship building skills
- Shared tasks and responsibilities in the household
Independent Living Services: Flourish Beyond Belief
When addiction, abuse, crisis, or mental health disorders have taken control of your life, ILS offers a second chance at a new beginning with safe, supportive, and accessible accommodation for all.
Temporary Accommodation
ILS currently has eight houses throughout Weston-super-Mare for temporary accommodation purposes. Residents should have a desire to improve their current position and will be given support towards moving on to more appropriate, permanent housing while engaging with ILS.
Examples of people who need temporary accommodation include victims of abuse, those facing unexpected homelessness, including teenagers; recent divorcees, or others in crisis.
Residents can expect assistance with:
- Applications to other housing providers
- Advocacy
- Benefit forms
- Accessing further support
- Making and meeting appointments/interviews
These properties are fully furnished with private and secure bedrooms, shared bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable shared spaces.
Fully Independent Living
Our ultimate goal is to help our residents return to meaningful and fully independent living, equipped with all the skills they need to thrive at home, at work, and within their communities.
Residents who actively work to improve themselves at ILS —those who become leaders and inspiration for others in our community— may eventually choose to move out of our shared accommodation and into one of our self-contained flats in Weston-super-Mare.
