Supported Housing for Mental Health

If you are at risk of developing mental health problems due to your environment, or if you are receiving mental health counselling and need safe, affordable, and accessible supported housing, Independent Living Services (ILS) can help.

Mental health disorders can significantly impact one’s ability to meet the requirements of daily life and often extend into one’s personal, social, and professional well-being. It is not uncommon for mental health disorders, whether caused by loss, trauma, genetic factors, substance abuse, or other factors, to put one’s housing security at risk, especially when they affect one’s ability to work.

ILS has years of experience in understanding the needs of and dealing with residents in recovery from mental health disorders. We provide structure and stability, safe and accessible housing, and integrated counselling and programmes of support that develop the skills and confidence needed to return to fully independent living.

We are based in Weston-super-Mare and provide:

  • Safe, clean, and comfortable shared accommodation with private bedrooms.
  • A structured drug- and alcohol-free environment.
  • Access to ongoing counselling and mental health therapy.
  • Access to substance abuse therapy as required.
  • Skills and career development opportunities.
  • Debt counselling and legal advocacy.
  • Access to a close-knit community of individuals striving to improve their quality of life.
  • The chance to transition back to fully independent living.

The struggle against mental health problems is difficult enough to manage without the threat of homelessness hanging over one’s head. If you need a safe place in which to recover, a place that offers genuine support and a sense of community, do not hesitate to contact ILS.

Accessible and Affordable Community-Based Supported Housing for All

We believe in everyone’s right to safe and accessible housing. Whether you are paying privately or through government-assisted benefits, ILS can provide you with secure and comfortable housing within a supportive community.

Our facilities

Independent Living Services (ILS) runs eight supported houses in Weston. We are easily accessible by rail from all over the southern UK and roughly an hour’s drive from Bristol, Cardiff, Bath, and Newport. Our houses each accommodate up to five residents, each in a private room. Some rooms feature private en-suite bathrooms. The houses all feature full kitchens, and clean and kept shared spaces and communal areas.

We’ve made sure that all our houses offer easy access to public transport hubs, shopping and entertainment areas, and both educational and mental healthcare service providers. Most of our houses feature private gardens and are located within walking distance of the beach, parks, and other outdoor green spaces.

How can ILS help me? Is ILS a mental health clinic?

ILS offers supported housing for vulnerable people. Supported housing allows those who are facing and recovering from a wide range of personal crises, including mental health problems, to focus on recovery and rebuilding their lives without worrying about housing security. We offer integrated support programmes that take each resident’s unique problems into consideration and provide support, counselling, education, or assistance as needed.

ILS is not a mental health clinic, nor do we directly provide mental health or psychiatric care for mental health disorders. We do, however, work closely with third-party organisations that provide counselling, therapy, and referrals for further treatment. Our support programme also includes access to educational, skills-building, and career-building opportunities, as well as other courses aimed at developing long-term independent living skills.

While the safety, security, and structured living we provide continue to help many return to full independence, we have to mention the contribution that our incredible community makes to our success. The ILS community has collectively overcome so much adversity and offers acceptance, understanding, and practical support to anyone dedicated to betterment.

How much does ILS cost?

We have dedicated ourselves to making safe, supported housing for mental health affordable and accessible. We work hand in hand with both local and national organisations and service providers to keep our prices down and accept both privately paying residents and those on government benefits.

Please reach out for more information about our pricing.

Our residents’ safety is our highest priority. Prior to admission, we might request your doctor’s or other healthcare providers’ contact details. ILS is a substance-free environment. We include continued substance abuse rehab therapy; however, we do not provide detox facilities.
