If you’re currently living in an abusive situation that threatens your safety and well-being, Independent Living Services (ILS) can help you find safe, clean, affordable, and accessible supported housing in Weston-super-Mare.
Domestic abuse, whether physical, emotional, sexual, or another form, can easily scar the victim in a way that affects their long-term outlook on life and their ability to deal with life’s challenges in a healthy way. It impacts the victim’s sense of self-worth, ability to trust, and other essential components of building and maintaining normal relationships. In the worst-case scenarios, it leads to physical harm and/or lifelong mental health issues.
Unfortunately, for many, escaping domestic abuse is easier said than done. Many victims feel ‘trapped’, especially when children are involved, the abuser controls the victim’s finances, or the victim has nowhere to go.
At ILS, we support the victims of domestic abuse with:
If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse in their home, please don’t hesitate to contact ILS. Domestic abuse is dangerous, and all too often ends leads to desperate situations and terrible outcomes. ILS can provide safety and stability before irreparable harm is done.
We believe in everyone’s right to safe and accessible housing. Whether you are paying privately or through government-assisted benefits, ILS can provide you with secure and comfortable housing within a supportive community.
We manage eight supported houses in Weston-super-Mare, making us easily accessible from Bristol, Cardiff, Bath, and other areas in the Southwest. Our comfortable and well-equipped houses each accommodate up to five residents in private bedrooms with either a shared or en-suite bathroom, and all feature full kitchens, shared living spaces, and access to everything you need while regaining control of your life.
Our supported houses offer easy access to public transport hubs, allowing our residents to seek employment or continue working from a safe and supportive base. Green spaces, parks, the beach, and various other places of interest are within walking distance, making it easy to spend time outside.
Although there is a small degree of overlap between ILS, shelters, and transitional housing, ILS is structured differently from other organisations that assist the victims of domestic abuse.
Unlike domestic abuse shelters or transitional housing service providers, which often focus on crisis relief and shorter-term stays, we focus on longer-term stays that include integrated support programmes and initiatives that aim towards long-term independent living. In addition to supporting victims of domestic abuse, we also support individuals in the later stages of substance abuse recovery, people receiving therapy for and recovering from mental health concerns, and those facing unexpected homelessness.
Our focus on longer-term accommodation and assistance has allowed us to build and maintain a strong community of individuals actively working towards better futures. The ILS community is welcoming and supportive and contributes immensely towards maintaining an environment where healing, growth, and progression remain the highest priorities.
We’ve committed ourselves to making safe housing affordable and accessible. We work with both local and national organisations to help provide specific services and keep costs down, making it possible to accommodate privately paying residents and individuals relying on government benefits. If you are or were facing a domestic abuse crisis and are currently in need of a safe space in which to rebuild, we will go out of our way to help you find it.
