About Independent Living Services
Independent Living Services (ILS) helps people in crisis find temporary, supported housing while rebuilding their lives to full independence. We assist people recovering from substance abuse, those facing unexpected homelessness, domestic violence and abuse victims, and others who need safe, affordable, and accessible supported housing near Essex.
Located in the beautiful Weston-super-Mare, around four hours by car or rail from Essex, we’ve been helping people from all backgrounds and walks of life rebuild their lives for 20 years.
We manage eight supported living and abstinence-based houses, each providing safe and secure accommodation with a fully private bedroom for each of up to five residents. We have a strong and supportive community of people actively working on improving their lives, and each resident has access to a broad range of support services that facilitate returning to fully independent living.

We’ve joined forces with several local and national organisations to provide the ILS community with ongoing therapy for substance abuse and mental health disorders; skills, career, and educational development opportunities; legal advocacy and support; personal finance and debt counselling; and more. Services like these help our residents resolve ongoing issues that stand between them and fully independent living.
Our community is also instrumental to our success. Residents who have been with us for longer and have fully dedicated themselves to independent living become leaders and role models to those just starting the journey, helping them embrace sobriety, health, and conscious progress in life.
